Glue Books

Sometimes a girl just has to glue.

I’ve always been an image junkie, ripping out compelling magazine photos with abandon and squirreling them away for future use.

My first book, made years and years ago, was simply a visual comfort resource made of photos I found soothing. I kept it on my coffee table, and used it for soothing myself when I was going tGlue Book a Go Gohrough a particularly difficult time. It was surprising how well it worked. At that time I wouldn’t have called it a glue book, but essentially that’s what it was.

My next foray into the World of Glue was my training as a SoulCollage® facilitator. SoulCollage is an personal growth/art therapy technique developed by Seena Frost. One creates a personal deck of cards (somewhat akin to a tarot deck), that can be used as a tool for personal and spiritual growth. I was in glue-image heaven.

It was in my work with SoulCollage that I learned how powerful it can be to simply close cut an image from one source, and glue it down on a background from another, thereby creating one’s own visual  story. (You can also swap out heads from one person to another, which is an entirely different strategy for changing the arc of a visual story. This can also be very therapeutic when one is annoyed, a sort of benign version of “off with her head..”  But then I digress…..)
